Artist's Statement

Artist's Website

I make sculpture, installations and drawings that suggest an embodiment of American economic distribution and class mobility in space.

I think about the “single-family home” as rhetoric and look at the ideological construction of home ownership and its relationship to human sustenance. Vehicular forms build a metaphor for mobility and personal drive. By embodying legacies and socio-political realities, the objects become fused with the dynamics of human life.

The body is the point of entry into the psycho/emotional aspects of my work. By marking the use of bodies in, on and around an object, I embed a corporeal identity into the form and materials of the inanimate objects. Whether it is the body of the multitude in society or a specific body with a particular identity, the body is fused uncomfortably with the various impacts: anxiety, lethargy, fear, pride, bruising, numbness, etc. that occur through the economy of living in America today.

Additionally, I use text in my work. It is here I point to specific voices of constituents and clientele and conflate fictions with historical narratives to form a richer understanding of our various relationships to money.
