I work in many media simultaneously and am constantly pushing the boundaries of these myriad formats. I started as a photographer who expanded on the concept of serial photography by making room-sized installations of overlapping photographs. In the mid 1990s when I discovered the internet, I became fascinated by the possibilities it offered and immersed myself in making interactive netart projects that juxtaposed text, image and animation. I later transformed these screen based interactions into interactive installations where the viewer choreographed their own experience triggering different sounds and images. Having gone large to create these installations, I have returned to making intimate interactive works that can be viewed privately on the iPhone. Creating artworks for mobile devices allows me to make projects that can be downloaded for free and carried by the user to enjoy at their leisure rather than requiring them to visit a space or access a computer. To me, this can be a new form of public art. What motivates me as an artist is to learn how to use and manipulate a technology (be it photography, the web, camera vision or the iPhone operating system) to enliven and activate both public and private spaces.
