My work is a long-term engagement with language in painting, drawing, sculpture and social practice. Most of my endeavors are collaborative by nature – seeking out writers and writing that I believe keep the “word” alive in a variety of settings with different audiences. Current projects include the release of my first artist book Ode to Happiness (in collaboration with actor Keanu Reeves and published by Gerhard Steidl), the submission of plans for the Love House for Watts House Project (with the Cerant family and architects Roberto Sheinberg and Arnold Swanborn), and the creation of a new body of studio-based paintings.  Each one of these encounters results in a visual language and space unique to the exchange. Part of my responsibility as an artist is to be a creative philanthropist and teacher.  The Love House imagines that a housing redevelopment driven by art can change the energy of a dynamic neighborhood in Watts, as though through social acupuncture.  I have read someone describe my practice as one of “radical collaboration,” and I like that: that my love of language and people takes me across social and national boundaries not normally connected.
